24. sept Kameratid.
BOX 1
05:29 Male brings rabbit to female. There was such a flurry of wings as female grabbed prey from male that it was difficult to get a clear photo of prey. After a few scroll backs, I confirmed it was a rabbit, minus the head.

September 24.
Regarding BOX 2 –
Last egg lay (#4) was 9/14. I was curious if barn owls have ever been documented laying an egg several days after last egg. All I found in researching it online was that they tend to lay every 2-3 days. Box 2’s clutch size this time around will most likely not increase.

Thanks for the prey delivery updates. That’s also interesting about the eggs. Here’s another quest I just saw that Florida has the threat of a major hurricane next week. Will these owls be in that threat? I always worry about the wildlife

There is always a risk, especially if trees come down. But otherwise, they will hunker down, either in the box, or close to the trunk of a tree and hang on tight. They won’t be hunting or flying about during the storm. Wildlife rescues often get in young owlets after a storm if their tree came down, especially if it is in someone’s yard. I expect these boxes will be monitored before, after and during and storm.

Thanks so much for the in depth answer. It’s good to know that they’re being monitored and just how the owls hunker down during storms

I haven’t been on a lot, but are the males coming around enough with food for the females? I assume so. I just haven’t seen posts with them there with food, lately
